Description
A large hoodoo found along Smoky Mountain Road within the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument. It is found in an eerie landscape locally known as “The Moon”. “The Moon” is part of a 90 million year-old geologic formation called the Tropic Shale. It looks like a grey moonscape. It’s actually the bottom of an ancient seabed called the Western Inland Cretaceous Seaway. It once covered a large part of the western interior of North America.
