Gallon House Crossing

$20.00$1,250.00

Description

View of the Gallon House Bridge over Abiqua Creek. During prohibition Mt. Angel allowed alcohol consumption, but Silverton did not. A farm house just across this bridge became known as the Gallon House because it was where bootleggers stashed gallon sized containers of liquor. “Dry” Silverton resident’s crossed this bridge to secretly purchase and pick up the forbidden liquid. Technically, to be legal, the buyers purchased the gallon jugs, not the liquor inside.
