Battery Russell has the distinction of being the only military facility in the Continental United States to be attacked by a foreign country since the War of 1812. Japanese submarine I-25 fire 17 shells at Battery Russell during World War II. It inflicted no damage and there was no return of fire. It’s located at the mouth of the Columbia River at Fort Stevens State Park, Oregon USA.
